End Times Overview and Timeline

Daniel 7 Dream:

  • Four winds of heaven churning up the “great sea” (Mediterranean), four great beasts each unique (“different from the others”) came up out of the sea.
    • Great Sea is also used to represent the gentiles
    • Four beasts are kingdoms, which come up from among the gentiles
  • Beast 1: lion with wings of an eagle. “its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a human being, and the mind of a human was given to it”
    • Head of Gold in Daniel 2
    • Explicitly identified as King Nebuchadnezzar. (v.37–38) which is the Babylonian Empire
  • Beast 2: bear with ribs in its mouth. “It was told, ‘Get up and eat your fill of flesh!’”
    • Breast & arms of silver in Daniel 2
    • Medo-Persian Empire
  • Beast 3: Leopard with four wings like a bird, had 4 heads and given authority to rule.
    • Belly & thighs of bronze in Daniel 2
    • Greek Empire
  • Beast 4: terrifying and very powerful, with large iron teeth that devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It had 10 horns and bronze claws.
    • Legs & feet of iron (feet are made of iron and clay), with emphasis on 10 toes
    • A little horn came up among them, three of the first horns were uprooted before it.
    • the horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes and a mouth that spoke boastfully.
    • this horn was waging war against the holy people and defeating them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the holy people of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom
    • Beast 4 thrown it into the blazing fire
    • The other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed to live for a period of time.
    • Traditionally, Roman Empire, but also suspected to be Islamic Caliphate due to its influence over the Middle East compared to the Roman Empire’s

“He gave me this explanation: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it. 24 The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. 25 He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.

26 “‘But the court will sit, and his power will be taken away and completely destroyed forever. 27 Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.’

Daniel 7:23-27

    • Out of one of the 4 horns, another emerges that started small but grew in power to the south, east and toward Israel
    • Threw down some of the starry host and trampled
  • Roman interpretation forces you to twist scripture
  • Daniel 7 and 8 are twisted due to interpretation that the 4th kingdom is Roman

The 7 Years

  • 2300 days from sacrifices being reinstated, to getting transgressed and defiled, to being reinstated by Christ
  • Antichrist will establish a covenant with the Jews for 7 years.
    • 2 witnesses prophesying for 1260 days, the first half of the 7 year period.
    • After these first 1260 days (the halfway point) he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him” (Daniel 9:27).
    • The latter half, for the next 1260 days will be the Great Tribulation which is kicked off when the antichrist sets up the abomination that causes desolation, and the believers go into hiding.
    • At the end of the tribulation (1,260 days after the desecration of the temple), Jesus Christ returns to earth and defeats the forces of the Antichrist.
    • During the next 30 days (leading up to 1,290 days after the desecration of the temple), Israel is rebuilt and the earth is restored.
      • “Daniel 12:11 mentions 1,290 days, however, which is 30 days more than the second half of the tribulation. Different ideas have been put forward to explain what happens in those 30 extra days. One likely theory is that the land of Israel will be rebuilt in that month after the devastation it endured during the tribulation.”

GotQuestions

  • During the next 45 days (leading up to 1,335 days after the desecration of the temple), the Gentile nations are judged for their treatment of Israel.
  • The dispensation of the millennium begins, and it will last for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:3, 5–6).
    • “According to Daniel 12:12, there will be an extra 45 days, on top of the extra 30 days, after which something else will happen. Daniel does not say explicitly what will happen, but he says those who remain until the end of that segment (1,335 days after the breaking of the treaty and 75 days after the end of the tribulation) will be “blessed.” The blessing here is entry into the millennial kingdom. What will take place during those 45 days? Very likely, this is when the judgment of the Gentile nations, described in Matthew 25:31–46, will take place. In this judgment, also called the judgment of the sheep and the goats, the Gentiles are judged for their treatment of Israel during the tribulation. Did they aid Jesus’ “brothers and sisters” (Matthew 25:40), or did they turn a blind eye to the Jews’ troubles or, worse yet, aid in their persecution?”
