4 Reasons We Don’t Believe in a Pretribulation Rapture—Dalton Thomas (MARANATHA GLOBAL BIBLE STUDY)

We Will be Radiant and Ready, Not Raptured and Removed // The Church in the Book of Revelation

Not a Single Bible Verse Teaches a Pre-Tribulation Rapture // THE RAPTURE & ENDURANCE OF THE SAINTS

Does the Bible Really Teach Imminency? // THE RAPTURE & ENDURANCE OF THE SAINTS

4 Reasons (Video)

  1. It’s not found in the Bible
    1. You can infer it, but it’s not explicitly stated
      1. Noah
      2. Enoch
    2. There’s only 4 verses that speak explicitly about the rapture

Matthew 24:29-31

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days [verses 15-31]

“‘the sun will be darkened,

    and the moon will not give its light;

the stars will fall from the sky,

and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

2 Thessalonians 2

2 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him [spoken as 1 singular topic], we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day [spoken as 1 day, 1 event] will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. [be prepared to endure these things]

5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? [this is not new information]

1 Thessalonians 1

3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

[Jesus will be revealed in blazing fire, not in a quiet rapture. His providing relief and providing payback to those that troubled the saints is spoken of together in the context of Jesus’ revealing]

1 Corinthians 15

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

1 Thessalonians 4

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Matthew 24

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,

    and the moon will not give its light;

the stars will fall from the sky,

and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

Reason: 1st time pre-trib rapture was taught was in the 1830s

  • 1850 John Darby says he came up with it
  • 1830 Margaret McDonald from Scotland (Glasgow), based on a dream she says she had with the Lord, and shared it with her community.
    • Leaders at the time said it wasn’t Biblical
    • She was implying the people of God were exempt from the final troubles
    • Scofield and Darby both latched onto this teaching
    • Based on the nature of how this teaching was inspired, it could even be a demonic teaching
  • Scofield study bible was published and was one of the most popular study bibles
    • This is how the teaching spread
  • Left Behind Series propagated it into pop culture in modern times

Reason: You Won’t Find It Taught Outside the Western Church

Outside of the West, no one will tell you they got it from their Bible. They will point to a teaching, a book or a sermon (which originated from the West). You have to be taught.

For example, Christians in the Middle East like Iran and Syria are already in Tribulation. They’re not concerned with some coming tribulation because they’re already in it.

Corrie Ten Boom (Holocaust)

1974

Survives Holocaust and writes this:

“There are some among us teaching there will be no tribulation, that the Christians will be able to escape all this. These are the false teachers that Jesus was warning us to expect in the latter days. Most of them have little knowledge of what is already going on across the world. I have been in countries where the saints are already suffering terrible persecution. In China, the Christians were told, “Don’t worry, before the tribulation comes you will be translated – raptured.” Then came a terrible persecution. Millions of Christians were tortured to death. Later I heard a Bishop from China say sadly, ‘We have failed. We should have made the people strong for persecution, rather than tell them Jesus would come first. Tell the people how to be strong in times of persecution. How to stand when the tribulation comes– to stand and not faint’” – Corrie Ten Boom, 1974

The message of escape is not found in any of Jesus’ preparatory warnings about the generation that will live through the dynamics that lead to the Lord’s return.

  • His emphasis was endurance and engagement, not escape and exemption.
    • I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
  • Who will bring the Gospel?
  • We are called to live as Christ lived, and lay our lives down as He did.

13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” 14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
